Update our virtual scoreboard in real-time with Scorebird

Get real-time scoring and connect your scoreboard to live sports data.

Here’s our quick how-to guide on how to connect our Scorebird template overlays to Scorebird’s MQTT feed, and keep fans up to date no matter where they are!

We’ve added to our list of virtual scoreboard overlays integrated with sports data sources. We don’t just offer Sportzcast overlays, but now also offer overlays linked up to Scorebird’s MQTT feed. Scorebird provides dedicated hardware to track game stats for scoreboards, allowing you to add all the live data in uno overlays in real time.

What is Scorebird?

Scorebird offers several solutions for real-time scoring, making it a great tool for broadcasting high school sports. The app delivers sports data directly to your device to keep fans up to date regardless of location. The sports data can then be added to a sports score display on your live stream. This avoids the hassle of collecting and reporting scores from all games – creating an even more seamless watching experience.

Scorebird also offers ScoreBuddy apps for Android and Apple IOS

By connecting our specially designed Scorebird overlays to Scorebird’s MQTT feed, you’ll have a professionally-designed, fully online scoreboard for live streaming that automatically updates with live sports scores

What you’ll need to connect uno to Scorebird

To connect to Scorebird’s MQTT feed, you’ll need to authenticate yourself with your API Key and Device NeST ID. You can find your Scorebird authentication details in the Scorebird User Portal.

Here is Scorebird’s guide on how to retrieve and copy your Scorebird API Key. Once you’ve found the API Key, store it locally for future use.

Your NeST ID is the ID of your Scorebird device, which you should be able to find once you’ve logged into your Scorebird account.

Note down the 5-digit numbers next to the device (or facility) you want.

Select an uno Scorebird overlay

Find our Scorebird scoreboard for live streaming by going to the overlays.uno Library and selecting Scorebird under the “Data Source” section of Filters.

You can also find these overlays by typing “Scorebird” into the search bar.

Click the “Add to My Overlays” button to add the overlay to My Overlays.

Configure the uno Scorebird template

1. Double click the uno Scorebird overlay to open its online interface.

2. Set the Scorebird Connect toggle to “ON” to connect to the Scorebird MQTT feed.

3. Set the Detailed Data Status toggle to “ON” to enable detailed data status.

4. Enter the Device NeST ID and API Key.

5. Use the Data Viewer at the top of the app output to monitor the connection and BOT status.

Make sure that the Scorebird Device and/or ScoreBuddy App configuration and uno overlay correspond to the same sport. If you’re using the basketball scoreboard, the Scorebird configuration shouldn’t be soccer.

Using the Data Viewer to check your connection

The Data Viewer can only be seen in the uno app overlay preview, so keep the window in sight to monitor the Scorebird data feed. The Data Viewer displays:

  • The connection status to the Scorebird MQTT feed
  • The device status
  • The current scoreboard data
  • The local time of your system
  • A timestamp of the last data package received from the device

What does this Data Viewer status message mean?

Here are a few common status messages you might see in the Data Viewer:

This means you’ve successfully connected to the MQTT feed, and the device is active.
This means you’ve successfully connected to the MQTT feed, but the device or app is switched to the wrong sport.

Tip: To fix this problem, check the configuration of your device and the configuration of the ScoreBuddy App, and select the matching sport.

This means you’ve failed to connect to the MQTT feed, and that the NeST ID serial number is invalid.

Tip: To fix this problem, check if you’ve correctly typed in the NeST ID, and check your ScoreBuddy App’s configuration.

If you’re still experiencing problems and can’t connect to the MQTT feed, contact Scorebird support for expert help.
