A Guide to the Overlays.uno Stream Deck Plugin v2

Enhanced for Stream Deck + and XL dials.

Our new Stream Deck plugin offers everything you loved about our v1 plugin but with bonus dial support.

In the world of live streaming, speed and precision are everything. We recently leveled up our game with the release of the Stream Deck Plugin v2, specifically designed to take advantage of the hardware dials on the Stream Deck + and Stream Deck + XL.

Whether you are managing a basketball scoreboard, a high-stakes countdown, or interactive "Spin the Wheel" games, this update streamlines your workflow.

The Evolution of Control: Introducing Dial Support

The standout feature of version 2 is the full integration of dials. While the original plugin relied solely on button presses, version 2 introduces a more efficient way to manage numerical values and cycling actions.

How the Uno Dial Button Works

The new Uno Dial button is designed to be "API friendly." Here is the standard workflow for using it:

  1. Activate: Click the dial once to enter "edit mode".
  1. Adjust: Spin the dial to choose your specific value (e.g., setting a countdown to 60 seconds).
  1. Confirm: Click again to send that single value to the overlay.
  1. Cancel: If you change your mind, simply press and hold the dial for two seconds to cancel the action.

Why this matters: Traditional buttons require an API call for every single increment (e.g., clicking 60 times for a 1-minute timer). The dial allows you to select the final number first, saving your daily API limit—especially helpful for free users who have a 10,000-call daily cap.

Versatile Use Cases

The plugin v2 isn't just a technical update; it opens up creative possibilities for various stream types:

  • Sports & Scoreboards: Manage basketball scores by setting "increment" operations. You can spin the dial to add 1, 2, or 3 points to a team's score instantly.
  • Talking Points: If you have a list of topics, use a dial to set the "active topic." You can quickly jump from topic #1 to topic #5 without cycling through the others.
  • Gaming Stats: Webcam borders can now be updated on the fly to track wins, losses, followers, or subscribers using dedicated dials.

Native Stream Deck Integration

Beyond the specific Uno Dial button, the plugin supports native Stream Deck features:

  • Action Trigger: This allows you to map three separate actions to a single dial: spin left, spin right, and click. This is perfect for "incrementing" or "decrementing" values one by one.
  • Action Wheel: This feature lets you cycle through a list of actions (like Start, Idle, and Shuffle for "Spin the Wheel") by spinning the dial, then clicking to execute the selected one.

Note: The plugin is not currently designed to work within a "Dial Stack" due to conflicting click commands.

Getting Started

Upgrading is straightforward. You can find the plugin and a brand-new Icon Pack (featuring 62 custom icons) on the Elgato Marketplace.

For those worried about existing setups, version 2 is backwards compatible. You can keep your version 1 buttons running alongside the new dial features without any issues.
